Tournament!

Had an awesome tournament this weekend with the guys from the Centretown  Warhammer Club! Dan and I had a great time burning up the battlefields. Thank you for all of your votes for best painted army! My Ogres thank you, and so does Dan for best overall, and a spot on the trophy! We are taking commissions, so please send us an email at gobbokingpainting@hotmail.ca! Pictures from the tournament to come! Also, the zombies from our first post are finished (20) and are now on sale!

Dark Elf Army, Finally Finished!

At long last, the Dark Elf project has (sadly) come to an end! Here are some pictures of the rest of the army.

First, we have the cold one knights. These models are great because the cold ones this time 'round are not as cartoony looking as the previous models.

 Knight 1!
  The Musician

Here is a close-up on the cold one's face, all menacing-like!

The standard!

 Knight 2!

 The Champion!

Up next is the other monster: the dreaded Black Hydra (with red scales to match the other one)!
A matter of successive grey drybrushes and some direct highlighting made this project quick and enjoyable!

I went with bright blue tongues to give them a poisonous/unhealthy look.

And finally, here are the Corsairs! I used a graphic highlighting method on the armour. My photo skills don't do them much justice, but I hope you enjoy them!

The Dark Elves are finished and are looking splendid!

Empire Hunter

This is a hunter from my Empire army. This unit is one of the showpieces in my army due to the withered trees (sticks outside of my apartment!)

Dark Elf Spearmen

Our Dark Elf commission is nearly finished. I will have a posting bonanza within the week! Here are some Dark Elf spearmen until then!

High Elves!

These High Elves from the Island of Blood boxed set are the main reason that I bought the set! Them, and the awesome kick start to a possible future Skaven army... Anywho! Here's a picture of the entire unit. I went with a  gold and red theme, the opposite of generic High Elves so they would stand out.

I'm a big fan of the masked fellows, so here are some pictures of them! They truly embody the elite infantry look!

I find the pose of the champion to be quite epic, as if he was about to lead a Zweihander charge! I painted the runes in a brilliant blue (enchanted blue with white, and some mithril silver!) to make the sword look all magical.

I think Dan's been feeling left out on the blog lately, so here are some pictures of models from his Dwarf army. they have a red theme (clearly) and though you can't see them in the pictures, the shields have amazing free hand mountain runes painted onto them. I will post more of Dan's models at some point!

Here's Dan's thane on oath stone. The stone itself is hand carved by yours truly.

Our big Dark Elf project is almost complete! All we have are a hydra, some corsairs, executioners, and knights to finish. Finished in no time! I'll be sure to post some pictures of some of my historical models at some point!

Orks on the Horizon!

Here are some Orks that Dan and I did up for a client/friend. They were a lot of fun to paint, as he told us to do whatever we wanted! I thought to keep the colours simple on the clothes. They are all foundation paints or a drab brown. Instead of the regular black and white checkers, we decided to do a red/yellow mix to suit our "Mad Sunz" theme. We made sure to ink up the metal to make weapons and armour look rusty!

Here are close-ups of my favourite models. Note the full syringe in the painboy's hand!

These Nobz were great fun to paint. I hope to encounter more of these fellows in the future!

Ogre Bruiser

As a miniature painter and Ogre Kingdoms player, I have been drawn to conversions like a moth to the flame! This Bruiser was a weekend project: to convert and paint a new bruiser using a random handful of mixed bitz, paint him, and finish him by the end of the day. I decided to give him an Empire theme with some Bretonnian accents due to the men-at-arms shield I had in my random pile. I used an Ogre bull body, head and iron fist, and an Irongut arm to give him this dynamic "CHARGE!" pose. His hair and mustache were sculpted by me. I give you, Franz!

I figured that, despite the fact that my Bruiser looks Empire-esque, he sure wasn't educated there. I hope you enjoy my Ogre illiteracy bellow! He always takes his to-do list into battle.

Here is his shield with the great maw and my trademark gobbo print!

Here's what my opponents (and Dan's squishy Dwarfs, hehe) see before they're crushed!

Here is a side view to show the luck laurel on his arm, and one of his Empire Knights shield grieves (and some fine single malts on his belt!)

Franz is an excellent addition to my Ogre Kingdoms army and makes a great leader for my decked out Empire Ironguts!

Barry the Bear

I had never heard of the wargame "Warmachine" before this commission, and I must say that the models are quite stunning. This bear (and its handler) that I painted for a client was really fun to paint, and is a very detailed sculpt. It has a very distinct "Golden Compass" look about it.

So there you have it, Barry the Bear and his best pal... Bearman. These models were great practice for painting white fur, as both models are covered in it. The blood effects on the bear were great fun and consist of thinned down blood red in a flesh tone wound. I especially like the work on his foot (paw?)!

HYDRA!

So many posts today! I couldn't resist this one. I finished a hydra a little while ago for a client, and I must say that   this red menace is ready for the battlefield! With red gore skin, scab red belly and a wicked/poison looking blue tongue, this hydra was quite a feat! Took me forever, this one! And with a twin still to be painted.

 Close up!

And here are the beast masters! I chose to give them leather made from hydra hide, and cold one skin that matches the other cold ones in the army.

More Dark Elves (Elfs) to come!
